Shop where illegal cigarettes were sold is closed
Cambridgeshire PolicePolice have closed a convenience store where they found more than 2,600 illicit cigarettes and an employee working illegally.
Next One Shop in Alexandra Road, Millfield, Peterborough, has been ordered to remain closed until 9 September.
Officers have also made three drug-related arrests in the shop in 2026 and found Class A, B and C drugs in and around the premises.
PC James Rice, of Cambridgeshire Police, said: "I hope that this shop closure gives the community some respite from the issues."
Police, council and Trading Standards officers all visited the shop on 8 July as part of a crackdown on illegal trading.
As well as the illicit cigarettes, they also found cricket and rounders bats behind the till.
The closure order was imposed at Cambridge Magistrates' Court two days later.
Failure to comply with it could result in a prison sentence of up to three months, a fine or both.
