A group of Year 10 students have become the first school group to visit Guernsey's only Michelin-starred restaurant.

Hospitality and catering students from Les Beaucamps High School spent time behind the scenes at Vraic, learning about the costs involved in running a kitchen, the benefits of using local produce and the process behind earning a Michelin star.

As part of the trip, students sampled some of Vraic's desserts, including homemade fudge, traditional Welsh cakes and bite-size strawberry jelly sweets.

The restaurant's executive chef Nathan Davies said he was delighted to show them around and hoped they "learned something new that will help them with their studies".

Vraic opened in 2025 and gained its Michelin star earlier this year - the first star to be awarded in Guernsey in more than 10 years.

Safia, a student on the trip, said it was interesting to hear what it is like to run a restaurant with a star - and the amount of preparation it took each day.

"It was a much more relaxed and open environment than I was expecting," she said.

"The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and the desserts we tasted were brilliant!"

Cora Norman, hospitality and catering teacher and trip lead for the school, said the visit "bridged the gap between classroom theory and real-world culinary excellence".

She said: "We focused on key syllabus objectives, including examining Michelin-star standards, understanding seasonal and local menu planning, and exploring diverse operational roles within the industry.

"This hands-on experience successfully brought the students' theoretical knowledge to life, providing them with a significant advantage as they prepare for their qualifications in Year 11."
