Officer facing driving charge after pedestrian hit
GoogleA Nottinghamshire Police officer has been charged with causing serious injury by careless driving following a crash that left a pedestrian with multiple fractures.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said PC Rachel Wakefield was driving a marked police car when she struck a 65‑year‑old woman on a pedestrian crossing in Woodhouse Way, Nottingham, at 15:47 BST on 12 August.
Wakefield, who was driving with blue lights and sirens activated, had been responding to reports of a person with a firearm in Kimberley, the watchdog said.
Nottinghamshire Police made a mandatory referral to the IOPC and a charge was authorised after a file of evidence was sent to the Crown Prosecution Service.
Wakefield is due to appear at Derby Magistrates Court on 13 April, the IOPC said.
