The bonfire spread, tearing through sheds and gardens

A fire service is urging people not to light bonfires during the hot and dry weather after one got out of control, destroying gardens and reaching a house.

The spreading blaze was reported on Jessamine Road, Southampton, on Monday afternoon. Firefighters arrived to find two sheds engulfed in flames.

The fire spread through gardens to the back of one home, damaging the conservatory and guttering before it was put out.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service said: "In the current hot weather we are experiencing, we ask that you think twice before lighting a bonfire."
