Arrest after man dies in crash on major route
GoogleA man has died and another has been arrested after two cars crashed on a major route, leaving the road partially closed.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said it was called to the two-car collision on the A34 southbound, near Sutton Scotney, at about 20:20 BST on Saturday evening.
The force said a man in his 60s was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 21-year-old man from Wiltshire was arrested on suspicion of causing death by driving whilst unfit through drugs.
The route, which is one of the major arteries linking the south coast with the Midlands, remains closed southbound between the A303 Bullington Interchange and junction 9 of the M3.
National Highways said the carriageway was closed for emergency resurfacing works, and was expected to reopen later on Sunday.
Police have asked anyone who may have witnessed the incident, involving an Austin A35 and a Mazda 6 Sport, to contact the force.
