Northumbria Police said 20 to 30 teenagers witnessed the fight

Bank Holiday disorder saw six windows on a Metro train smashed during a fight at a station.

A group of teenagers were fighting at Meadow Well station in North Tyneside at about 22:20 BST on Monday, with 20 to 30 teenagers watching on, Northumbria Police said.

The force said once officers had arrived at the scene those involved had already left, but the damage caused temporary disruption to the entire Tyne and Wear Metro network.

CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed and officers urged any witnesses to come forward.

Erika Allen, a director at the Metro operator Nexus, said the damaged train was returned to the Gosforth depot and the broken windows are being replaced.
