A record number of runners have signed up for this year's Chorley 10k with 3,000 people set to take part.

The annual event, which takes place on Sunday, has sold out and will take over the town centre.

As well as the 10k Run, there is also a 2k Family Run, and Chorley Council which organises the event in conjunction with Fylde Coast Runners, promises "more activities and entertainment than ever before".

Here's everything you need to know about this year's event.

The route

Both the 10k and 2k races start and finish on Market Street.

The 10k race is a two-lap course which goes from Market Street to St Thomas's Road, along Southport Road before turning right into Ackhurst Lodge and then entering Astley Park.

Runners will then pass run over the lake bridge, past the playing fields and play areas and head towards Astley Park's main gates where they will turn left on to Park Road. They will run up to the junction with the A6 Preston Road where they will turn and travel back down Park Road and pass Chorley Town Hall, before turning right into St Thomas's Road and repeat the course.

On the second lap runners will continue down Market Street and through the finish line.

The 2k course will see participants pass Chorley Town Hall on to Park Road before they run though Astley Park's main gates, travel past the play areas and playing fields to a marker just before the lake where they will turn and travel back along the same route through Astley Park and back out through the main gates and turn right on to Park Road, continuing straight ahead on to Market Street to the finish line.
