A new five-storey office building that will provide space for about 1,600 staff at JPMorganChase's Chaseside campus in Bournemouth has been formally approved.

The company currently employs about 4,000 staff there and said the new building would help alleviate pressures across the site.

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council's leader Millie Earl said the application was a "powerful vote of confidence in our town, our people and our future".

Some residents said they were worried about the development's impact on parking and traffic but BCP Council's planning committee approved the project on Monday.

"Bournemouth is competing with the very best locations in the UK, attracting world-leading businesses while retaining the character, quality of life and sense of community that make it such a special place to live and work," Earl added.

"When global companies choose Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, the benefits extend beyond their own workforce.

"Investment of this scale strengthens our local economy, supports wider growth and sends a clear message that Bournemouth is ambitious."
