Read and listen to the stories of myth and legend as interpreted by the children themselves. |
 | | | Web Tales is an innovative schools project which explores the myths, legends and strange stories of Devon.
This exciting new venture has been developed in partnership with the BBC Devon website and the Barefoot Project Arts Education Agency, as part of the fourth Plymouth Arts Education Festival.
Primary schools across Plymouth and rural Devon joined in the research, writing and telling of stories peculiar to their area.
 | The completed stories, in both written and audio form, together with pictures drawn by the kids, can be seen and heard by clicking on the links on the left of this page.
Web Tales follows on from the success of Poetry-in-Motion at the 2002 festival - a project that saw primary children across the city create a communal ‘Poem for Plymouth’.
How the project works
As an example, in the Lipson area, a group of children from several different schools worked with writers to select and write their own version of a pre-researched local tale.
The final story now appears on their own page of the BBC Devon site, complete with illustrations.
Following on from this written project, the children began work with a drama practitioner on developing a ‘told’ version of the story.
An extract from each story was presented live at the festival’s Artown performance day at Plymouth Pavilions on 18th February.
The children have also been encouraged to discuss their work on a message board dedicated to the project.
If you have any comments or thoughts about their stories you can join in the discussion.
You will need to have Real Player installed to watch the video stream. Download here.
