The Haunted Bus Bus 32A, was on its new route around the Old Mill Estate with one of the new drivers, Judy Jackson. It was a cold, clear day and there were many passengers catching the bus from the estate into town. Judy was a good driver, liked by the other drivers and passengers because of her cheerful and friendly manner. The day had started well and she had not yet completed her first whole route, when for no reason, the bus jerked to a stop near a primary school. Judy checked to see if her foot had hit the brakes - but no it was still on the accelerator. " I wonder why it has stopped? " she thought to herself, " It's been fine all morning. Weird." After a few minutes the bus started to move again without Judy doing anything to the controls. " What ? How strange !" Judy continued into town and forgot about her experience until it happened again on her second time around, in exactly the same place ! "What is going on?" she asked herself. The next time around it happened again, in the same place and by now she was getting really annoyed. This continued all morning. She decided that on her return to the garage she would get the bus checked by the mechanic. The next day she saw the mechanic who told her that the bus was absolutely fine. She was, however, given a different bus to drive on the Old Mill Estate route and to her great relief there were no further unexpected stops. " Oh, it must have been a bad day for that bus yesterday " Judy did not drive the bus again until a week later, on a different route but there were no problems. She had forgotten all about the stopping incident. However, when she was put back on the Old Mill Estate route, the following week with the 32A bus, the stopping occurred again every time she got near to the school. " Why Me ? I wonder if anyone else gets this problem ? I'm going to ask the other drivers if they have had this trouble with this bus." At the end of her shift, instead of going home, she made her way to the drivers' canteen. She got a cup of coffee and sat down with a group of fellow drivers and described her experience with bus 32A on the Old Mill Estate route. They listened quietly until she had finished speaking. " Oh that's weird, I had that when I drove around that route " said one of the drivers, followed by others who agreed with him. But some of the drivers had driven on that same route with no problems ….. so what was going on? "I wonder if it only happens with the one bus and those of us, who have not experienced the stopping, have been driving a different bus ? " shouted Judy. Over in the corner of the canteen, one of the office workers overheard their conversation. He walked quietly over to the group and tapping Judy on her shoulder said " Excuse me but I couldn't help overhearing. Were you talking about a bus stopping near a school on the Old Mill Estate ? " " Yes we were." Judy answered " Why ?" " I think I know the answer " he replied. " Please tell us why this keeps happening" they all cried. " Well…… several years ago a boy was knocked over and killed by a bus at that very spot." " Which bus ? " " 32A " " How do you know this ?" " Because I was the driver ! " " But you don't drive buses "
"I used to but I have never been able to drive a bus since that day " " I think that bus, the 32A, is stopped by the boy so that no other child will ever get knocked over
