The Headless Horse Woman It was October 31st 1981 - also known as Halloween to others - and many children were out on the rampage for sweets. Children knocked on every door except for one because inside that house lived the fiercest woman called Isobel Slabe. She didn't like anyone. She would throw banana skin at them and would curse them for walking past her house. She had long black hair and always wore black. Many people thought she was a witch and they would speak about her among themselves. Every Halloween she rode around the park on her horse and shouted 'Death to you all' twice and then would go home.
This Halloween was no different but in the middle of the park she stopped because her scarf had became loose. After she made it tighter she got back on her horse and was going faster than ever. As the wind blew in her hair her scarf wrapped itself around a branch and was tied very tightly. Isobel hadn't noticed and carried on riding through dark night sky. All of a sudden her neck began to go red, her eyes began to bulge out of their sockets and then her head popped of. Her horse got frightened and galloped away chucking her body onto the floor and left it lying there with her pale head. It was now November 2nd and a man walking his dog saw Isobel's head separated from her body and rang the police. Because she had no family the police buried her a week later. Her house and belongings were then sold. A year had gone by and it was now 1982 and everyone had forgotten about Isobel Slabe. Once again it was Halloween and many people believed that is was the night that ghouls and ghosts came back to life and haunted people. It was now 11:30 pm and Halloween was nearly over and some children had decided to take a walk in the graveyard. "I can't wait to get there. It's going to be really spooky," whispered a tall girl. "I know but we all should stick together," replied a large boy. As they stepped into the graveyard it got really quiet and there wasn't a single sound. "Crunch, crunch, crunch" was the sound as they stepped onto the damp muddy floor. All of a sudden the torch started to flicker and then it just went out. They were surrounded by total darkness and couldn't see a thing. Then there was a slight sound, which startled all four of the children and what they hadn't realise was that one of the graves has started to make a rustling sound under the ground. Then without any sudden movement the grave started to open and slowly a body came up to the ground and you have probably guessed it by now but it was Isobel Slabe coming back to get a new head. "Give me your head! I need a new head!" she yelled. Her head looked like someone had tried to sew it back on and half of it was hanging off. "AAAAAHHHH!!!!" screamed all four children as they began to run to the gates to get back out. Isobel started to chase after them on a horse that had been abandoned as her head kept wobbling from side to side. It was now 11:58 PM and Halloween was almost over and the four children were getting closer to the large, rusted, metal gates. The two boys had made it out and so did one of the girls but the smallest girl's trouser had caught on a large sharp rock and she was stuck. "Help! Help me!" she screeched so one of the boys ran over and ripped her trousers so she could get out. Isobel was gaining on them but luckily they all made it out on time and as it struck 12 'o' clock she fell to the ground and crawled back to her grave. As she did, her head rolled off and was left behind a tree and her body just threw itself into her grave. The children never spoke about that day again and who knows if her head is still behind the tree. Will she come back and haunt anyone again who knows. We'll just have to wait and see.
