One night two miners were trudging home from work. They had been working in the mine in the Cornish village of Morvah. They had just been paid and so they stopped off at the inn for a drink on the way home. It was dark when they set off on the last part of their journey past the moor. There was very little wind that night but as they got closer to the moor they heard a strange moaning sound coming from one of the rocks. As they looked up they could see lights and strange dark figures moving about. They began to walk more quickly and then from out of nowhere appeared a horse carrying a tall stranger in a black cloak with a hood covering his face. The stranger beckoned the men to follow. As they got closer to the top of the rocks they saw two strange creatures with long flowing hair, wild eyes and painted faces. A piece of ground had been cleared as if for a wrestling arena. One of the men lifted the other high in the air and as he did so the rocks around them shook and the earth beneath them groaned. The miners who were very frightened by now fell to their knees and began to recite the Lords Prayer. The effect was immediate; as soon as the prayer had finished the earth shook as if with an earthquake. Everything went black and there was the noise of a great rushing wind. When the men opened their eyes again everything had disappeared. The men stumbled back on their journey home and in the morning they wondered if the had imagined the whole thing. However a week later in the town posters went up to advertise a wrestling match to be held high up on the rocks on the moor. The faces in the poster looked very familiar!!
