Burnley moved off the bottom of the Championship in impressive style

Burnley thrashed Watford at Vicarage Road to secure a first league victory of the season and climb off the foot of the Championship.

Nicky Hayen's side were rampant in the first half, taking the lead through Jacob Bruun Larsen's cool finish.

Zeki Amdouni and Reo Hatate made it three before the break, and Marcus Edwards wrapped things up late on.

It was a sobering afternoon for Watford, who have now lost three straight league games and five of their past six.

The visitors took the lead inside 13 minutes, Bruun Larsen finishing well across goal after he was teed up by Hatate.

Six minutes later, it was two. Amdouni bundled the ball over the line after Federico Ravaglia saved Larsen's goal-bound strike.

Burnley were flying, and Hatate curled in a third on 25 minutes after another swift break after more good work by Bruun Larsen, prompting boos to ring round the stadium.

The second half began with no real rhythm, with Watford still shellshocked after a disastrous first half, but Burnley struggling to play with the same authority.

Gregoire Coudert was alert to deny Mamadou Doumbia as the Hornets searched for a route back into the game.

But Burnley weren't finished, Edwards volleying home his first goal of the season to make it 4-0.

'The first problem is atitude' - Dionisi

Dionisi: 'It's impossible to win if the team is not strong'

Watford manager Alessio Dionisi speaking to BBC Three Counties Radio: "I'm very angry. The match was finished after 20 minutes. It is impossible.

"I didn't see the same attitude as against Southampton or West Ham or in training.

"It is impossible to win if the team is not strong. It is difficult to explain. Ten players went to the national team, they did that because at the start the team played well.

"The first problem is attitude and today I didn't see [a good one]."

'This group has a lot of quality' - Hayen

Hayen: 'We found the right spaces'

Burnley manager Nicky Hayen speaking to BBC Radio Lancashire: "We delivered a really good performance, particularly in the first 30 minutes.

"We found the right spaces and made good runs. We could have scored more but we didn't make the best decisions.

"Sometimes we were sloppy and gave chances away to the opponent. We have to avoid this, but that is one remark, the rest was positives.

"This group has a lot of quality. We have to perform like this every week and in the new training sessions. We had a horrible first window. This is a good start to a new one."
