Arkell Jude-Boyd scored the decisive spot-kick as Shrewsbury Town beat Salford City 4-3 on penalties to book their place in the Carabao Cup second round.
Salford forced the penalty shootout through Kyrell Malcolm's 77th-minute equaliser after Salop took the lead through Josh Davison's first Shrewsbury goal two minutes after half-time.
Both goalkeepers starred in a remarkable penalty shoot-out during which nine penalties were missed before Jude-Boyd fired into the top corner to seal victory.
Kelly N'Mai missed a golden opportunity to score the Ammies' first competitive goal under new boss Peter Cklamovski, striking tamely at Will Brook in the 16th minute.
Davison, who joined Salop in June after being released by Tranmere Rovers, fired a low shot into the bottom corner two minutes after half-time to give Gavin Cowan's side the lead.
Salford were handed a lifeline 17 minutes from time when Shrewsbury defender Sam Stubbs was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Ryan Graydon.
The Ammies made their numerical advantage count from a corner four minutes later when Malcolm rifled the ball through a crowd of bodies past unsighted goalkeeper Brook.
Salford centre-back Will Aimson was then shown a straight red card in added time after tensions spilled over next to the dugout, as both teams ended the contest a man down.
And the drama continued into an enthralling penalty shoot-out which came to an end when, after Salford defender Ollie Turton hit the base of a post from 12 yards, Jude-Boyd stepped up to find the back of the net.
