Matt Lucas and David Walliams Discuss...

interview

I just fancy knowing how Peter Serafinowicz got involved and if he pops up in the actual series like he did in the pilot show? I think he's fantastic!

Matt: Peter is a mate and was doing us a favour! His brother James was assistant producer on the pilot.

David: No, that's all Peter does, he is too expensive!

Ted Robbins was your warm up act for Little Britain recently; I noticed that in a Rock Profiles, during your impression of Jo Whiley naming inane bands, one band was called 'The Ted Robbins Warm Up Experience'. So has Ted been a warm up act for you a lot in the past? Or is it just a crazy coincidence?

Matt: It was no coincidence. We remembered the Ted Robbins show on ITV from when we were little.

David: We love Ted as a man and a comedian so we like to work with him and reference him as much as possible. He has the best stories in showbiz!

Can we have the script for each episode put up on the Beeb's web site every week please? The feedback I've had from fans about the Episode 1 script has been so wonderful! People are quoting you left right and centre.

Matt: The League Of Gents have brought out a wonderful book of their scripts, with illustrations and notes etc. That would be the way to do it. The ‘Little Britain’ script as it currently stands looks a bit dry on the page, frankly. Also, what ended up in the show isn’t always what was scripted - so do you use what we wrote or what we ended up using in the final edit? We could spend four months customizing them, going back to early drafts, annotating them etc but that seems a bit premature. Also at this stage it would be better to spend that time working on series 2!

David: No, you'll have to buy the script book in a few years! Thank you, that's what we always wanted.

Rock Profile was a fantastic series, but because it was only shown in its entirety on PlayUK, do you feel it didn't get the exposure it deserved?

Matt: I think that for a show made on a miniscule budget on a small channel like PlayUK it did pretty well. We would have made more but in the end we chose to spend the time working on Little Britain instead.

David: People come up to me often who know the show. I think it had a good run for a show made for digital as it was shown on BBC2.

I'd like to ask if there are any plans for another Rock Profile series, or if they're going to be repeating it anywhere anytime soon! That show is the best!

Matt: Perhaps. We’d certainly like to put out a comprehensive DVD of the stuff we’ve done so far.

David: No plans at the moment, but I think me, Matt and Jamie would love to do some more. I would love to see Matt as Missy Elliot! I think it is a bit out of date now to repeat it. Thank you for asking!
