There was some good news for new manager Enzo Maresca earlier this week asmidfielder Phil Foden has signed a new four-year contract to keep him at Manchester City until 2030.

The 26-year-old's previous deal was due to expire next summer but he has opted to extend his stay.

Foden said: "I can't wait to work with Enzo again. He was brilliant during the Treble season - someone all the players respected and loved working with."

The Italian was an assistant to Pep Guardiola during City's 2022-23 season in which they won the Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup.

Finally from Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca, asked about the recent changes in the style of Premier League and how that will affect his style of play in Manchester: "It's just a matter of adapting. In any profession, everything changes with time. You need to adapt and evolve.

"Set pieces and man-to-man [marking] is the direction which football is going. In the end, we are managers and we have the responsibility of that. It is our duty to find a solution.

Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca, asked about his departure from Chelsea which left the club feeling 'let down': "I feel quite lucky in terms of my former clubs, Leicester and Chelsea. I think we did a great job at both clubs. The identity of the team and the success of the team was clear.

"I feel very lucky to be part these clubs but today we are here and that is the most important thing. It is just about Manchester City. [I have] nothing to add.

Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca spoke more about what convinced him to join the club: "First of all I know the organisation quite well and the people inside the club from years ago. I just said before that when a club has three managers in almost 20 years, it shows how serious [they are]. The structure understands to give time for everything.

"Since Manchester City contacted me, I had no doubt about joining this fantastic club."

Enzo Maresca has just wrapped up his first press conference as Manchester City boss.

He appeared relaxed and understood the pressure of succeeding Pep Guardiola, widely considered the greatest manager ever.

As someone who called time on his own Chelsea career way before his contract was up, it was interesting that Maresca mentioned the fact that Manchester City have only had three coaches in 17 years, saying that was "not normal".

He will surely understand the expectation at this club for managers to stick around...And succeed.

He acknowledged the need to do a bit of transfer business but would not be drawn on the speculation around Rodri.

Time will tell what the future holds for the Spaniard along with the likes of James Trafford and Jack Grealish.

I always said, in any club I join, the players that are in the club, it is my duty to coach them. Jack at the moment is here. I have a good relationship with Jack. We are talking about football but in any profession, with time everything changes so you need to adapt and evolve, set pieces, man to man, at the end we are manager and have the responsibility of that and it is our duty to find solutions.

On what he would have to change: "You have to adapt and I think it is a nice weapon with the Erling as a nine. Not all the clubs have the players that are good in combinations, that can't be the only solution. We need to find more solutions."

This club and organisation has had three managers in 17 years. That is not normal and has not happened often. It is four managers in 17 years, as Mark Hughes was in charge from June 2008 to December 2009, followed by Roberto Mancini, Manuel Pellegrini and Pep Guardiola.

Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca on Rodri: "First of all I have to say, that around big players there are always speculations so I am not worried about that. I think it is normal, also because they won the World Cup, because he is one of the best players.

"I think every manager wants to have Rodri because he is a top player. But now, surgery on Monday. He needs a holiday, he needs to rest and recover and then he will be back with us."
