Sheffield United came from behind to beat Blackburn for their first away league win of the season.

The home side took the lead when Kristi Montgomery pinched the ball off Sydie Peck 25 yards from goal and swept home a fine shot into the top corner.

The Blades, who also won 2-1 at Ewood Park in the Carabao Cup second round last month, levelled when Peck played Tom Cannon in on goal and the former Everton man finished calmly.

Peck then put United in front just before the break with a superb effort after flicking the ball over the head of a defender and then smashing a low effort beyond Aynsley Pears from 20 yards out.

Rovers had much the better of it after the break but Michael Cooper was equal to Todd Cantwell's strike and Hamza Choudhury cleared a Dapo Afolayan shot off the line.

Blackburn managed 19 shots to the Blades' seven but only managed to get five on target.

They played the game without a recognised striker in their matchday squad with both Yuki Ohashi and Andri Gudjohnsen unavailable through injury.

Despite that lack of firepower they took the lead when Choudhury's ball into Peck played the United midfielder into trouble and Montgomery pounced before finishing with aplomb for his first goal for the club.

Skipper Todd Cantwell thought he had made it 2-0 to the hosts but the offside flag curtailed celebrations and moments later the ball was in the net at the other end.

Joe Rothwell won a bouncing ball 40 yards from goal and moved it on to Peck who slipped Cannon in on the inside left and the Republic of Ireland international finished through the legs of the on-rushing Rovers keeper Pears.

Peck got what proved to be the winner after a marvellous touch to lift it over the head of Tom Atcheson and then a sweet low shot that Pears may think he could have got a hand to.

The Blades, who confirmed the signing of veteran forward Jordan Ayew earlier on Tuesday, created little in a second half dominated by Blackburn but sub Tyrese Campbell nearly made it 3-1 in the final moments.

Blackburn host Millwall on Saturday afternoon, while Chris Wilder's men welcome Wolves on Sunday.

Blackburn Rovers boss Tony Mowbray told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"Ultimately we lost the game and the goals we lost were very soft. You've got to do the basics better.

"I haven't seen the data but it felt like we were pretty dominant in the game to me.

"You can argue that we didn't have any centre forwards on the pitch and so we weren't ruthless enough because a centre-forward lives for scoring goals.

"I don't want to be too harsh on them but I have been in the dressing room because you can't give games away like that that you deserve to win. You can't keep letting in two goals a game because you're not going to win very many."

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"Delighted with the attitude of the players and the mentality of the players, it was important that we recovered from a really disappointing last half an hour of the game on Saturday.

"We needed a reaction and we got one.

"I'm not kidding myself that these are free-flowing performances at the moment but I've got a team that puts everything on the line.

"We'll get better and we'll find that consistency but at the moment every team in the division is searching for that and I don't see many teams nailing that at the moment.

(On Sydie Peck): "We really enjoy working with him. He's not had the greatest of starts and he's scratching around to find his form. It was a mistake that can happen and a recovery which is typical of him, I thought it was a really good goal."
