We had periods when we didn't have the ball and were fighting, getting blocks in. Obviously they had a bit of luck and got the deflection for the goal.
"It was probably a good game to watch for the fans, but it's frustrating. We are improving. Three or four more minutes and we would have had our first win. It was a game of luck, we both had it on our side. It is what it is."

"Calvin [Bassey] is one of the best at the back in the Premier League, he plays at a high level with and without the ball. He is doing so good.
"We have young payers but also players with experience, like Sander [Berge] and Alex [Iwobi]. We have a good mix.
"We want points, that's the most important thing, but I think my players are working hard and open to learn. They are playing in the way we want to play. If we continue playing this way the victories will come.
"We now have three weeks without many players, some stay here and we will work with them. When they come back we will start again."

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick speaking to BBC Sport: "I think we did enough to win the game. I think we could win it. It was an unfortunate own goal but for the most part we were good. Their goalkeeper has made top saves, on another day we could have two or three goals. I was pleased with how we responded, the boys kept their belief and kept doing the right things. I think a point is the least we should take."
On Fulham's goal: "I think it was maybe a foul on Matheus [Cunha] first, there's an argument for that. The shot has come through someone and it has happened quite quickly. Quite a few moments like that have been going against us. Thankfully we have still taken something small from the game."
On the 'noise' around Manchester United and if it bothers him: "No, what bothers me is that we want better results. We want more points, we're going to have a spell where it's not quite going for you and we've had a spell of that where small things have ended up as big things. We don't think things are perfect by any means. We need to win football matches. The supporters were top-drawer again today and we have to give them something to keep shouting about."

On their development under Alvaro Arbeloa: "I think you could see the more we play, the more control we have. In the first couple of games we were too emotional. You can't change things in one or two months, it takes time. We are much more balanced now.
"A lot of positive things to take, and still a lot of improvement. The team is alive, it is fighting, it is running. You can see how we play and it is very positive. With our new manager and philosophy I think we will win games. Then the confidence will come."

Why they couldn't get the victory: "I think probably their goalkeeper really. The saves that he made today - he has probably made three top saves. We have hit the post twice and had a load of opportunities. Of course we are not happy about not winning the game but there are things to take from it for sure.
On whether his team were passive: "I didn't think we were. Did you think we were? Football is a difficult game. We controlled a lot of the first half. It's the Premier League and you will have spells where you don't have it all your own way. To expect total dominance for the whole game, I don't think anyone gets that in this league."
On if he was happy with the team's energy: "Yes."
"I think we can take a lot from today. I think we can learn a lot as well. We can be better at certain things, that is pretty clear, but there were some god signs today."

"It's only the beginning, to play for this shirt there is a lot of noise around. We stay very strong, we believe in our group and manager. We showed everyone how we did it last season. The only thing we can do is work more.

On the referee: "There were so many things for them, you can see it in the foul by [Harry] Maguire. Every decision was for them. I knew after the game against Manchester City that they don't like Manchester United to lose.
"We were so, so close to our first victory that we are a little bit upset now.
"I think we did a good game. Obviously not an easy game for us, we were in the bottom position but we saw personality with the ball, we were brave. We had moments where we had to defend but in general we did a good game.
"We wanted to control the transition and the counter attacks. We know they put too many people inside so we have to control the space behind our midfielders. They sometimes found the spaces, it is a difficult match against a big team and for me they will be near the top of the league by the end of the season.
"Now we have to find the first victory. If you see our first five games we have already played Man Utd, Chelsea, at Anfield, at Sunderland. Now we have an October that will be so important for us.
"We have shown the team we want to be and if we play in this way the victories will come."

Liverpool boss Iraola makes a winning return to old club Bournemouth

Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola made a winning return to Bournemouth as his side signed off for the international break with a narrow victory at Vitality Stadium.
Alexander Isak's fourth Premier League goal of the season settled a poor game - and left the Cherries seeking a first top-flight win of the campaign going into October.
A determined run by Cody Gakpo ended with a ball into the box that Bournemouth failed to deal with and Sweden forward Isak tucked home from close range.
Isak was mobbed by Liverpool's travelling fans after running over to celebrate with them and was booked by referee Michael Oliver.
Iraola, who secured European qualification for Bournemouth before leaving to take charge of Liverpool in the summer, received a warm welcome from the Cherries fans on his return.
But he was on course to suffer a frustrating afternoon in Dorset until Isak pounced in the 57th minute.
Before then Bournemouth had gone closest to scoring through Evanilson's 18th-minute flick which Alisson did well to put behind for a corner.
At the other end, Florian Wirtz skied an attempt over the bar from close range that was flagged offside when replays showed he was, in fact, onside.
Meanwhile, expensive summer signing Bradley Barcola forced Djordje Petrovic to save with his legs, while Dominik Szoboszlai's 25-yard dipping free-kick dropped just wide.
Liverpool climb to sixth with nine points from five games, while Bournemouth have three points and drop to 17th.

Liverpool go into the three week break having won back-to-back Premier League away games, while they have now kept three top-flight clean sheets in a row in a single season for the first time since the start of 2024-25 - when they went on to win the title in Arne Slot's first season.
In addition, they have won four of their last five games in all competitions.
Sounds good yet Liverpool remain a work in progress.
This was far from a fluent performance by the Reds, whose next game is at home to leaders Manchester City on 11 October, despite extending their unbeaten start under Iraola.
They struggled to impose themselves against opponents who travelled to northern Spain to play Real Sociedad in the Europa League on Thursday.
It took 33 minutes before Liverpool registered a first attempt on target while it was another 11 minutes before they won a first corner.
At least Isak is starting to show some form.
The £125m signing has already scored more top-flight goals than last season, while the defensive partnership between Virgil van Dijk and 21-year-old summer signing Jeremy Jacquet continues to flourish.
Bournemouth analysis: Timely international break

This is the first time Bournemouth have had to balance playing in Europe on a Thursday before a Premier League game on a Sunday.
They secured a memorable victory in the Basque Country over Real Sociedad in midweek but are still without a top-flight win under Marco Rose, who took charge after Iraola left for Anfield.
The international break has come at a good time for the Cherries.
It was revealed before kick-off that Dutch winger Justin Kluivert would be out for several weeks with a damaged hamstring he suffered against Real Sociedad.
Against Liverpool, they missed his attacking flare and managed just two attempts on target.
These are exciting times for Bournemouth, who host seven-time champions of Europe AC Milan in the Europa League on 22 October.
But they will need to get to grips with juggling the demands of playing in both the Premier League and Europe quickly if they are to stay away from the lower reaches of the table.
