    Boundaries for Smriti Mandhana!

She slams Lauren Filer's second ball through mid-wicket then pulls the final delivery of the over powerfully to the ropes at square leg.

  2. Ind 4-0published at 3 overs

    Lead by 119

India's second run is also a bye, off the leg this time as Lauren Bell clips Shafali Verma.

Two more come off the bat and the openers each take singles at the end of the over.

  3. Ind 1-0published at 2 overs

India get off the mark as Lauren Filer's delivery dies on Amy Jones and breaks through for a bye.

Another maiden, although I imagine Jones and the wicketkeeper's union will argue it shouldn't be.

  4. Ind 0-0published at 1 over

A opening maiden from Lauren Bell to Smriti Mandhana.

There were only four in India's first innings, so that's a crumb of comfort for England.

Not much of a break - the players are back out with about 25 minutes until tea.

Smriti Mandhana will face the first ball from Lauren Bell.

Kranti Gaud walked off holding the ball aloft, she finished with figures of 5-37 and will be first woman on the Lord's honours board.

Sayali Satghare and Sneh Rana took two wickets each, conceding 40 and 41 runs respectively, while Deepti Sharma closed with 1-10.

Is there a little but of a World Cup hangover for England women it wouldn't surprise me, India had an extra four days post their break. They only had two days to prepare for this test match, England haven't been at their best today and they are loosing consistent wickets.

The thing that frustrates me is their bowling, we have a world-class bowler with Lauren Bell.

This has been an insipid performance by England so far. Poor in every department they haven’t been helped by the skipper's decision to bowl first.

    Yep.

No overturning that - England are dismissed for 170.

They trail by 115 and will have to pull off something special if they're to stand any chance in this Test.

    That looked out.

    This should be it.

Deepti Sharma's back and she seems to have Lauren Filer out lbw with her first delivery.

England will use the review because it's available, but don't hold your breath.

I thought Lauren Filer had massive potential to become a decent all-rounder but she now is behind Lauren Bell and a mystery yet to be solved.

  14. Eng 170-9published at 59 overs

Two more for Issy Wong, digging out a full delivery from Sneh Rana and getting runs on the off side.

Deepti Sharma played a really important 'holding role'. Attacking the stumps 65% of the time today, which is at least 20% more than any other spinner in this match so far, returned her an economy rate of just 0.64 (3 runs off 28 stump-hitting deliveries).

Biggest problem for women's cricket might be the dominance of Australia. England need a long term plan with some proper money behind grass roots.

    Simon in Woking

There’s undoubtedly some sympathy with lack of Tests but if that’s the case why don’t Australia and India struggle

    Matt, Bolton

Hi Matt, India play domestic red-ball cricket, with the Senior Women's Inter-Zonal Multi-Day Trophy returning to the calendar back in 2024. How involved the centrally-contracted internationals are, I don't know.

  17. Eng 168-9published at 58 overs

    Four for Issy Wong!

She glances Kranti Gaud square, a little aerially but it flies to the left of short leg and to the ropes.

Wong then runs a leg-bye off the following delivery.

  18. Eng 163-9published at 57 overs

Issy Wong gets off the mark from her 23rd delivery, pushing Sneh Rana into the covers for a single.

That's her first run in Test cricket.

Lauren Filer is last out of the hutch, she survives the last four balls of Kranti Gaud's over.

A wicket maiden for Gaud - England have lost three wickets for three in the last 41 balls.
