The watch party here at the LA Galaxy park outside the stadium is already awash with red, white and blue. Every few minutes, chants of “USA! USA!” ripple through the crowd. There’s music, families draped in stars and stripes, and thousands of supporters soaking up what has become one of the biggest sporting moments the country has hosted in decades.

There’s genuine belief around this team now. The excitement that followed the opening win hasn’t faded - if anything, it’s grown as the tournament has gone on.

Half way there... Livin on a Prayer.

The USA have been the only side trying to win this tie, but have been frustrated by the stubborn defence of Bosnia.

There's been some lovely swagger to some of their approach play but they couldn't find a way to break the deadlock until a double deflection on Malik Tillman's throughball fell to Folarin Balogun to slot through the keeper's legs for his third goal of the tournament just before the break.

    This is brilliant play.

Mauricio Pochettino is applauding it. There have been some lovely moves from the USA. The defender just does enough, just comes across and puts him off.

A feisty end to the half and we have a melee after a meaty challenge on Kerim Alajbegovic who then gets a bump in the face from the knee of Tyler Adams as he hits the deck.

The Bosnian is fuming that there's no punishment but it looks accidental.

  5. CLOSE!published at 45+7 mins

    USA 1-0 Bosnia-Herzegovina

Folarin Balogun close to a second as he latches onto a nod down from the right in the box but slices a close-range half-volley which loops onto the top of the bar.

    Very good chance, that...

Christian Pulisic is hauled down on the left flank to win a free-kick but Antonee Robinson's cross is just over the head of Alex Freeman at the back stick.

  7. Postpublished at 45+5 mins

Raphael Claus is the ref who added 24 minutes of stoppage time to a half during England's 6-2 win over Iran in Qatar 2022 - a World Cup record.

We might well end up with eight or nine minutes here.

Good goal for us neutrals, game was pedestrian. Hopefully a much more interesting second half.

Break in play as we go into FIVE added minutes as Tyler Adams gets some treatment after a heavy collision with Edin Dzeko, who was moving at full pelt and is another strapping lad.

He's going through all the tests you need after a blow to the head, but he'll be okay to continue, after his quarantine period on the touchline.

Relief for Mauricio Pochettino as he's a key piece.

  10. 'Balogun has been the star man'published at 01:47 BST

The USA absolutely deserve it. They've had so much of the ball, they've shown real glimpses and patches of quality but Folarin Balogun has been the star man.

It's a little bit fortuitous how it falls to him with the deflection but he's in the right areas and manages to get it onto that left foot and just looks to hit the target. He is the first one to react.

    Breakthrough!

Mallik Tillman tries to thread Folarin Balogun down the right of the box but the ball breaks off a sliding defender and then off another blue shirt and falls to Balogun in the middle of the area to tuck a low shot under keeper Nikola Vasilj and into the net.

His third goal of the tournament and the US have broken the stubborn Bosnian resistance at the perfect time, with half-time looming.

Folarin Balogun has looked so lively. He has in every game that I've watched him play.

Folarin Balogun wins a free-kick with some nifty footwork on the right and it;s another chance to get a good set-piece into the mixer.

Christian Pulisic again whips it in low, I think they must be worried about the Bosnian aerial presence, and it's deflected past the near post by a red and white shirt.

    USA 0-0 Bosnia-Herzegovina

Tyler Adams is the latest American to concede a free-kick after a tug in midfield and the home fans are letting Raphael Claus hear their thoughts.

the hosts go back on the front foot and Malik Tillman's lovely backheel sends Christian Pulisic darting into the box but his cross from the left byline is too high. He needed a low cut-back instead.

  15. Postpublished at 37 mins

Some lovely zip to the USA's approach play around the area but their final ball has been lacking, from both flanks, as Weston McKennie over-hits a cross from the right before Antonee Robinson's curler from the left is nowhere near a red and white striped shirt.

Can the USA keep this level of intensity up for the full game? Bosnia playing to their strengths to try and wear the opposition down. USA have got to get Pulisic into the game as much as they possibly can. He is the difference maker.

It's really good pressing and this is exactly what USA do. They look to win the ball back high.

It's a real calm, composed finish but the linesman was right.

Brazilian ref Raphael Claus might have a festive name but he won't be on many US fans' Christmas card list at the moment.

They feel every decision is going against their side, particularly when Stjepan Radeljic, who is an absolute giant by the way, 6'7", goes down easily under pressure from Sergino Dest who looks like a child next to him.

The referee was in a good position.

There's a slight touch. Is it enough for a penalty? I'm not sure.

  20. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 31 mins

    USA 0-0 Bosnia-Herzegovina

Folarin Balogun has the ball in the net, but the flag is up.

US win the ball back just outside the box and it's worked to Balogun who cuts inside his man and fires a left-footed shot low inside the near post but his celebrations are cut short as he was half a yard offside in the build-up.
