The only previous European meeting between PSV and Shakhtar Donetsk was in November 2024 in the UEFA Champions League group stages, with PSV winning 3-2.
In major European competition, Shakhtar Donetsk have won just one of their six away matches in the Netherlands (D1 L4), a 2-1 win over Feyenoord in the UEFA Champions League in October 2017.
