  3. How the injuries to Hincapie and Zubimendi happenedpublished at 14:37 BST 12 October

Mikel Arteta has given more clarity about how Piero Hincapie and Martin Zubimendi got injured after Arsenal's win against Leeds on Saturday.

The Gunners had planned for the players who did not play a full game or had not had minutes in the 2-1 win to train at the Emirates Stadium so that all of the squad could have a recovery day on Sunday, to get them ready to train on Monday.

Arteta, who says it was done to get "everybody in the best rhythm" revealed that both players have picked up ankle injuries with Hincapie's more serious than Zubimendi's but both players have further scans planned.

The Arsenal manager called the incident "far from ideal" but it's something that has "never happened in the seven years I have been here" and said that his Arsenal side trained that way "37 times" last season.

Arteta regularly arranges for the players who have not played a full match to take part in a small sided game on the pitch and this is how Hincapie and Zubimendi picked up the injuries.

The manager does this so that all of the players have a similar output and when they are navigating their busy fixture schedule.

Substitute goalkeeper Illan Meslier was seen to be carrying Hincapie off the pitch on his back even though there were staff members present.

And this is something that Arteta does not seem to be happy about, saying: "that's something else, not to discuss here".

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta on William Saliba's return to training on the grass: "[He has been back] now for over a week at least. It is about managing that load and how many repetitions and sessions in a row that he can do. But he is building now his capacity to do good standards and then in the coming weeks we can start to introduce him again into the team to see where we are and when we can actually make him available to the squad."

Whether he could be back after the next international break in November: "I don't know. We are still talking in terms of weeks. That is very difficult to say if he can play just before or after that.

"It is a very specific healing process and I cannot tell you exactly how he is going to react to it."

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta on facing former player Olivier Giroud, who now plays for Lille: "First of all he was a great character and a great person to have around the dressing room. He was a completely different profile of a player than what we were used to and what a career he had. He definitely earned it as well."

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta on his players' ability not to panic in difficult situations: "We have to be emotionally dominant regardless of what the context is, which is easy to say but actually very difficult to do. 17. 'Far from ideal...it never happened in seven years'published at 13:55 BST 12 October

More from Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta on the injuries suffered by Piero Hincapie and Martin Zubimendi in Saturday's post-match warm-down: "It's far from ideal."

On what can be done to stop this happening again: "Very easy, you don't train. If they never train then they don't get injured, but the consequence to that is when they are needed to play they have no rhythm and when you ask them to play they are going to have no impact in the game.

"That could happen at the Emirates - it never happened in seven years that I have been here. It could happen the next day in the training session. That has happened before and hopefully it doesn't happen again.

"What can you do? If I had a crystal ball I would just say 'guys, get in the Jacuzzi and I will see you tomorrow'."

Mikel Arteta is asked what he can do to prevent injuries such as those suffered by Piero Hincapie and Martin Zubimendi during Saturday's warm-down.

"If I could predict this, I'd look at my crystal ball, get in my jacuzzi then see you all tomorrow," Arteta says.

    Lovely image, Mikel, thank you.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta on Eberechi Eze's low number of starts: "Like everybody else I think they need to earn the right to play. That's up to training sessions and when you are on that pitch to have the impact on the game that the team needs, in order to achieve that.

"He [Eze] is going to have many opportunities to do that. His attitude is phenomenal and our players have to adapt as well to his qualities."

  20. 'We need to be more clinical'published at 13:46 BST 12 October

Arsenal v Lille (Tue, 20:00 BST)

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta on his side's attacking flow: "I think it is going pretty well. I think the way we have finished the actions is probably something we need to improve, but in terms of what we produced before the international break it was better than any other year.

"Then we had obviously the Brighton game [a 3-0 loss away from home], then the other game [against Leeds] which was a different context as well. But we are getting in good positions and we just need to be more clinical now to finish more actions."
