Sheffield Wednesday have signed goalkeeper Joe Lumley on a free transfer from Championship side Bristol City.

Lumley, 31, has signed a two-year deal at Hillsborough following a brief loan spell with the Owls last season, when he made two appearances.

Having begun his career with Queens Park Rangers, he has also had spells with Middlesbrough and Southampton.

"I jumped at the chance to come here," Lumley told the club website., external

"I was here last season and just got a feeling within that time of the set-up of the club, how big the club is, how passionate the fans are. It was a no-brainer for me.

"I've heard season tickets are selling out fast. So, I can only imagine the atmosphere is going to be exactly how it was when I experienced it before, which is perfect.

"I've played at Hillsborough as an away player too and when the ground is bouncing, it's intimidating, which as a home team, you want that."

Wednesday were relegated from the Championship last season after huge financial troubles resulted in an 18-point deduction.

After a takeover in May, they avoided another 15-point penalty for the forthcoming League One campaign.
