    Can someone explain to me why Jacob Bethell is opening in an ODI when we have a quality short format opening batsman in Will Jacks batting at 7 - I don't get it.

    Prasidh Krishna takes a leaf out of Jasprit Bumrah's book and goes round the wicket to Jacob Bethell.

    He draws the England opener into defending thin air with a teasing delivery back of a length.

    Bethell gets himself off the mark with a risky dab to short mid-on but makes his ground.

    This is Jasprit Bumrah's first ODI since the World Cup final in November 2023, he went 2-43 in that game.

    Since that World Cup, India have won 17 ODIs and lost eight and England have won ten and lost 19.

    Ben Duckett dabs one down to third to get off strike.

    Jasprit Burmah immediately switches to round the wicket to Jacob Bethell.

    His fifth delivery is angled in back of a length before nipping away and Bethell has a bit of a fiddle at it.

    Not so long ago, that finger of Ben Duckett's would've been broken. Equipment these days is so much better.

    Pleasure to watch Jasprit Bumrah on days like this - top-class operator.

    He beats the outside edge of Ben Duckett's bat then he gets one to spit off a length which rattles the England opener's finger against the bat handle.

    Duckett removes the glove to inspect the digit in question, but is good to carry on without any treatment.

    A little bit of variable bounce, which is surprising to see so early on, as Prasidh Krishna skims one under Jacob Bethell's bat and the ball races away for four byes.

    Krishna is back of a length in the remainder of the over. Bethell defends, before a bit of a hack across the line to the pentulimate delivery which does not connect with.

    Jasprit Bumrah bowled beautifully in that over.

    It's a really short boundary out there today, there's going to be a lot of fours and sixes.

    Ben Duckett knows that a Jasprit Burmah inswinging yorker was coming at some stage but still ends up dancing like a cat on a hot tin roof when one swings into his front pad.

    India appeal, ponder a review, but it was clearly curving away down leg side.

    Final ball of the over Burmah strays a little wider and the left-handed opener crunches it through the covers for four.

    Jasprit Burmah manages to sizzle a couple of deliveries past the outside edge of Ben Duckett's tentative defensive prods.

    Swing through the air as well.

    India have missed his skill over the past few weeks.

    This is just the third ODI at Edgbaston since the 2019 World Cup however England will have good memories of their last ODI outing here. They posted 400-8 against West Indies in May last year with Duckett, Root, Brook and Bethell all passing fifty in a 238-run victory.

    Jos Buttler is playing his 200th ODI for England today. He was presented with a special cap by former England limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan a little earlier.

    Buttler needs 26 more ODI appearances to overtake Morgan as England's most-capped player in the format.

  19. A familiar-looking England team with plenty of spin options.

    Josh Tongue is making his ODI debut. One of the Nottinghamshire seamer's targets this summer was to become an all-format player for England.

    He made his T20 international debut 10 days ago and now makes his 50-over bow.

    India are strengthened by the return of two of their heavyweights in experienced top-order batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

    KL Rahul keeps wicket while seamer Gurnoor Brar is playing his fourth ODI.
