Paro beats Crocker by unanimous decision

That is all from us here on a dream night for Australia's Liam Paro, who becomes the new IBF world welterweight champion courtesy of a unanimous decision victory over Lewis Crocker.

It was a close fight that went the whole way, with Paro picking up enough of the early rounds to survive a late onslaught from 'The Croc' in the championship rounds.

It will be back to the drawing board for the Belfast man, who will undoubtedly come again.

A close fight goes the way of Liam Paro as Lewis Crocker will now seek to rebuild.

It was close but Crocker will feel he maybe could have done a little more early on, as his big finish was so close to producing the win.

Perhaps the 10th round was the story of this fight as with Crocker becoming more and more dominant.

Paro managed to get back on top with his skills that ultimately saw him home, but the Australian's heart was incredible in the final two rounds when it seemed he was on the way out.

With this being a mandatory defence, a rematch is highly unlikely but who wouldn't want to watch that again? A superb clash of styles that delivered.

Mostly I'm just surprised all three cards agreed! Felt like a difficult one to score given the gaps in output one way and threat the other. Fun clash of styles anyway, one to repeat some day?

Home decision. Paro landed barely anything in the second half of the fight...

Round 10 was the hardest round to call and it seemed to come down to that.

You can’t spend 12 round hitting gloves and win the title. Paro was beat, swollen and bloody at the end and the Croc was fresh and unmarked.

    Tony, England

Before anyone starts crying hometown decision, the ref was from the US - as was one of the judges with one from Puerto Rico and one from Japan. They all saw it the same way.

    Clear win for Paro

    Paul, Adelaide

That's a huge "homer". Crocker won all the championship rounds and inflicted damage throughout. Paro doesn't punch for a welterweight. Great fight nonetheless but the wrong man won.

    And breathe!

What a thrilling 36 minutes of action at the Par Rafter Arena, with Crocker finishing the stronger of the two fighters.

However, it was the Australian who started the stronger and might have built up a lead early on.

    What a 12-round battle!

Liam Paro made the better start as anticipated, but Crocker grew into that and in the championship rounds, seemed on the brink of a stoppage.

Is it enough to retain his title? The cards ought to be close.

The champion comes out like a man knowing he needs a stoppage, piling the pressure on the Australian who continues to stand firm.

'The Croc' continues to press forward and lands with multiple big shots, drawing more blood from the eye of Liam Paro.

The Belfast man swarms the hometown hero but can't find a way to put him down as the final bell sounds.

A huge final two rounds from the champion, but is it enough to win it on the three judges' scorecards?

    Lewis Crocker v Liam Paro

The champion again lands with what look like big shots, but the Aussie is weathering the storm and firing back with his own fierce attacks.

There is a brief pause in the action as Crocker seemingly lands on the back of Paro's head, with referee Tony Weeks calling time before the Australian is cleared to continue.

A big Crocker round with just three minutes of action left in Brisbane.

Paro undoubtedly has produced the better boxing, but Crocker's power has been a huge threat.

We're into the championship rounds now and this seems like it's all to play for.
