Dressed to Kill
A forensic image analyst identifies a killer from images in CCTV, and a forensic specialist helps police unravel the truth when a case goes from missing to murder.
The first case is in Luton where, on 27 February 2022, the body of Saul Murray is found outside a block of flats. He died from blood loss after being stabbed. With a history of gang activity, the 33-year-old was finally beginning to turn his life around before his death. When CCTV starts to reveal potential suspects, investigators suspect the killing was engineered using a ‘honeytrap’, with the motive being theft. The images also captured a man carrying a knife.
One by one, suspects are arrested, but the knife-wielding man eludes police until an expert witness, forensic image analyst Clive Evans, is brought in to examine footage of a distinctive designer coat worn by the suspect on the night of the murder and in other CCTV footage. Extensive analysis by Clive shows Ikem Affia was the man carrying the knife. Affia eventually confesses and is convicted of murder. The programme includes revealing interviews from BBC senior correspondent Sima Kotecha and former Met police officer Peter Bleksley.
The next case is the disappearance of French tourist Celine Figard in 1995.
Celine had travelled to the UK with a family friend, on her way to visit her cousin. She was last seen when the friend dropped her off at a motorway service station in Hampshire. Here, witnesses reported her accepting a further lift with an unknown lorry driver. Her body was found dumped near woodland ten days later, and investigators began an extensive manhunt.
An expert witness, crime scene specialist Tristram Elmhurst, works with investigators in the mass screening of 5,000 lorry drivers for DNA, and by examining key pieces of evidence – including the suspect's lorry - the killer is convicted.
The programme features revealing interviews from former Hampshire police senior investigator Des Thomas and BBC journalist Alistair Binney.
