Will the new The Voice UK series be as good without Sir Tom Jones?

Sir Tom Jones has entertained audiences for more than fifty years.

If you love watching The Voice UK then you may be a fan of legendary Welsh singer, Sir Tom Jones.

But, after ITV revealed Sir Tom would no longer be a part of the show when it returns for its 15th series, more than 63,000 people signed a petition to try and bring him back as a coach.

A petition is a list of demands or a call to action, and people sign their names to show support for it.

Fellow judge Will.i.am has even shared the page, which was set up by superfan Aaron Howlett from Kingston-upon-Hull.

Aaron said Sir Tom is still an amazing performer and is "the reason that most people watch The Voice".

ITV thanked Sir Tom for all of his years on the show and the "countless incredible and unforgettable moments" he was a part of.

How long has Sir Tom been on The Voice?

Sir Tom was part of the original coaching cast of The Voice UK when it began in 2012, alongside Jessie J, Danny O'Donoghue and Will.i.am.

He took a break in 2016 but returned for series six and has been part of the show ever since.

However, he recently told his followers on Instagram that he has been taken off the show and that they had offered him a much reduced role which he was unhappy about.

A spokesperson for the show said: "We have loved working with Sir Tom Jones over the past nine years on The Voice UK.

"While he will no longer be a full-time coach on series 15, we continue to talk to Sir Tom and his team about his involvement in the next series."

It is not just Tom who will be missing from the new series - the whole show is likely to look and feel different from its last outing.

Emma Willis, who has presented the show for 12 series, will now be taking centre stage on BBC One's Strictly Come Dancing. She will be replaced by Alesha Dixon and Stacey Solomon.

There is a new coaching line-up too, with singers Kelly Rowland and Will.i.am being joined by former Girls Aloud star Cheryl and rapper Aitch.
