Peter Hogg from Newcastle welcomes the £2 price cap, telling the BBC he currently spends £5 a day on his return journey to work.
"I currently spend £2.50 for a single ticket, there is not a discount for a return ticket," he says.
"The next step up is a day-rider ticket at £6 that allows you to jump on multiple buses in the day but I don’t do that.
"If it does go down that will be fantastic. It would save me about £20 a month."
