Making tracks

Cycle ride: From Princetown to Burrator

Beautiful Burrator reservoir.

Burrator Reservoir.

This is a tried and tested route, which utilises the existing cycle track from Princetown to Nun's Cross, then to Burrator Reservoir via a rough track, and back along the old railway line which runs gently back up hill to Princetown.

Burrator Dam
The dam at Burrator reservoir.

Recommended maps are the Ordnance Survey one inch to one mile tourist map, and the larger scale yellow Outdoor Leisure map of the area No.28.

The tracks are easy to follow, but a map may well come in useful when navigating the lanes around Sheepstor and Burrator.

The route takes in some fine views across the moors towards Plymouth.
and there are several beauty spots worth stopping to visit along the way.
There are no places on the route for refreshments, but there is often a van with ice creams etc. near Burrator.

Quiet lane
Enjoying the quiet lanes.

This ride is not suitable for very young children due to the rough nature of some of the tracks.

Children over the age of nine with a bicyle equipped with a low range of gears should be able to enjoy it.

 Make sure you are prepared.
