Wolf and Water Arts was invited to help with the play by Silver Hill Lodge, which is the day centre that the actors come to. The actors had received a grant from South West Arts to look at creating their own professional theatre company for people with learning difficulties.
We were asked to come and work with the group on their first production - which was "A Christmas Carol."

What we want is people to leave the show saying that was a really good show.
If people go and see a show with people with learning disabilities, and end up saying "ahh didn't they do well", in some ways they haven't learnt anything about the capabilities, talents and creativity of those actors.
We'd rather they come out saying what a fantastic show. | | Silver Enterprise in rehearsals |
In this play we used a professional theatre venue - there was no mention that the actors had learning difficulties in the publicity or on the posters. We'd hope that if someone turned up to see the play, they had a worthwhile and enjoyable experience - as if they saw any other theatre company doing a production of that play. Wolf and Water tend to work with people who have not had access to theatre or the arts - people with learning difficulties, people in prison people with mental problems - some of the more difficult to reach groups.
Silver Enterprise Theatre staged its first production at The Plough in Torrington in December.
