"I always thought 'someone's got to have it', just like someone has got to win the lottery and someone has got to live until they are 110 - well someone's got to be ill as well." "People seem to think that only old people get cancer and then they die - they never think that it happens to children and you survive." I believe in like, a past life and lives before that and I feel that I've done something wrong in my last life and they've brought me back to punish me. | | A Part of us Forever |
These opening quotes are typical of the frank and honest testimonies offered by the young people throughout the film. Interwoven with the teenagers' own accounts is a drama that follows two young people as they begin their treatment. The story line is based on real experiences and occasionally drifts into the surreal and sometimes funny daydreams of the young patients. "What's on the menu for today? Boredom, boredom, quiet desperation, ah what's this? chemotherapy?" | | Watch a clip from the film

The children themselves - all recent patients from Wonford and Derriford hospitals - had a major part to play in the production of the film. They wanted to make a film that would describe their personal experiences of cancer, and would help other children that have been newly diagnosed. The co-ordinator of the project is Rachel Bennetts. She said: 'We've all been impressed with the enthusiasm and commitment which these young people brought to this project. "They have spoken very honestly about the illness which turned their lives upside down, and used the experience to reach out to others facing similar challenges. | | The film is frank and challenging |
"One of the young people summed up the purpose of the film when he said 'I wish something like this had been around for me when I was trying to cope with it all,'" she added. The young people worked with North Devon based Wolf and Water Arts Company, together with Somerset Film and Video. The Film will premiere in Exeter on Monday 22nd March at the Exeter Phoenix, starting at 7.30pm - admission free.
