The classification of plants is truly complicated, and botanists classify them differently from cooks. In general, it’s widely accepted that vegetables are the different edible parts of plants, whereas fruits develop from the flowers of plants.

Before you start, bear in mind we've used botanical groupings, so 'fruit' and 'veg' are broad terms. Not all is as it seems. For example, we're counting berries as 'something else', because what you know as a culinary berry might not be classed as a botanical berry.
