Dozens of local charities have received money from Robbie's Give It Sum - and the types of organisations can vary wildly in the kind of work they do. Here we feature two of them - Youth4Audley, and Planet Sound
Letting in the Light Project The little village of Audley near Newcastle has also benefited from GIS. The group Youth4Audley have had open mornings for the local community to drop in and bring old photos, and be interviewed on video about their memories of growing up in Audley parish. They also visited the Audley & District Family History Society and interviewed some people there.Their project Letting in the Light consisted of translucent silk hangings, which created vivid images, from both photographs and text. Sarah BonamPlanet Sound Drum School The Planet Sound Drum School is a public drumming workshop based at Cartwright House, next door to the Mitchell Memorial Theatre in Hanley, SoT.
"Give it Sum" funding enabled the drumschool to build on existing work, and for the group to develop.
Participants ath the school learn West African and Samba percussion in an informal and creative environment and have the opportunity to play at carnivals and festivals, such as the Newcastle Carnival and Sanity Fair.
Although the workshops are pitched towards teenagers and adults, younger children with a strong interest are very welcome - for details see Planet Sound's website.
