Argyle's White relishing 'licence to shoot'

Plymouth Argyle's Harvey White says his impressive goal at Blackpool was due to the confidence he is feeling.

The summer signing, 25, delicately controlled the ball on the right corner of the penalty area before spinning away from two defenders, gliding past a third and firing a left-footed strike low into the near-post corner.

It was the midfielder's second goal of the season as the Pilgrims' 4-2 win at Bloomfield Road moved them up to third in League One.

"I kind of took it out of the air and then just touched it on to my left foot and hit it," he told BBC Radio Devon of his goal.

"I did an interview a few weeks ago where I said I'm just changing my mindset on shooting and just trying to hit the target. I had a lot of chances today from outside the box where I've shot.

"First of all, I'm getting the licence to shoot, but also the confidence is flowing through me when the ball drops to the edge of the box."

The goal pleased head coach Tom Cleverley, who saw White score for the first time since joining from Stevenage in a 2-0 win over Bradford City last month.

"To pluck it out of the sky, swivel and then give the keeper the eyes and the clean strike at the near post. It was fitting with his performance today," he said.
