Wigan Athletic have appointed Matt Gilks as goalkeeping coach after the death of Kevin Miller.

Miller, who had joined the League One side in the summer, died suddenly aged 57 last month.

Former Scotland international Gilks moves to the Latics having held the same position at Accrington Stanley.

The 44-year-old, who made 527 professional appearances over a 21-year playing career, has also worked as a goalkeeper coach at Bolton Wanderers and Barnsley.

"It's a really difficult situation for this to happen and have to replace someone, and the way it's happened, but Gillo is someone I've known for a while and through Scotland camps," boss Gary Caldwell told the club website., external
