How do I install and uninstall the BBC Sounds app?

Installing

On Amazon Fire and Android

To install the BBC Sounds app you'll need to be connected to the internet (either via WiFi or a 3G or 4G connection) and have access to the Google Play Store or Amazon Appstore.

For Android you'll need at least Android 5.0 and a minimum ARMv7 processor. Amazon Fire devices will need to be on Fire OS 5 or above. On both devices, you need to have BBC Media Player app installed. Here's where you can find our apps in your app store:

Here's how to install our apps on your Amazon Fire or Android device:

  • In either the Google Play Store or the Amazon Appstore, search for BBC Sounds / BBC Media Player
  • Once you're sure you have the right app, select the Install button on the screen and the app should begin to download straight away
  • After you've downloaded it, you'll be given the option to Uninstall or to Open
  • Select Open and this will bring you straight to the app which you can begin to use straight away
     

On an iPad or iPhone

To install the BBC Sounds app on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, head to the Apple App Store.
 

You’ll need to have iOS 11 or later to be able to install the app, and you must sign in with your Apple ID or create one. You don't need the BBC Media Player app on an iOS device.

  • From the home screen, tap App Store
  • To browse within the App Store, tap Search and then enter 'BBC Sounds'
  • Tap the app
  • Tap Get then tap Install
     

Uninstalling

On Amazon Fire or Android

If you want to uninstall the BBC Sounds app:

  • Press and hold the app on your screen
  • You'll see a small icon of a bin appear on the screen: drag the app onto this and release/let go
  • You'll then get an on-screen notification asking if you're sure you want to 'Uninstall BBC Sounds?'
  • Select uninstall and the app will no longer be on your device
     

For Amazon Fire devices there is a very slight difference:

  • Tap and hold the app icon, and select "Remove From Device"
  • Tap "OK" to uninstall the app, if prompted, and select "OK" on the completion screen
     

On an iPad or iPhone

  • Head to the home screen and find the icon for the app you want to uninstall
  • Gently hold down on the icon for about two seconds until the icons wiggle. An X will appear next to some of the apps.
  • Tap the X for the chosen app and confirm that you wish to uninstall the app
     
There is no BBC Sounds app for computers and tablets. On your computer, simply head to the BBC Sounds website to listen to live radio, on-demand programmes, podcasts, and music mixes.
