The village built by bricks
The fascinating story of the model village built by a brick company for its workers.
In 1926 the ‘model village’ of Stewartby was created by the London Brick Company to house its workers.
Similar to the likes of Bournville, Saltaire and Port Sunlight – it not only gave them a house to live in, but also all the community facilities they could wish for.
Laura Foster hears from some of the people whose families lived and worked in the village for generations.
