As part of a BBC Wales Live investigation into police misconduct, those who alleged abuse from police officers say it has been "ignored" by forces over several decades.
BBC Wales Live have spoken to those affected, and had exclusive access to one force who say they take the issue seriously.
Gemma Dunstan reports.
