French abortion drama opens New York film showcase

Happening, a French abortion drama from director Audrey Diwan, has been well received at New York's New Directors/New Films festival – in the wake of winning top prize at the 2021 Venice Film Festival. Based on a true story from a celebrated French author, Happening tells of Anne, a young woman in 1960s France whose time at college and freedom are threatened by an unwanted pregnancy.
