Kate Molleson journeys through the last five years of Franz Schubert’s life, focusing today on the year 1825, when Schubert began his Symphony No. 9. Although Schubert’s music was being published during this period, mainly solo piano music and songs, the composer longed to be recognised for his orchestral, chamber and stage works. It was a trip through the Alps which helped to inspire Schubert to create his final symphony.
