Scotland and The Games
Ahead of The Commonwealth Games in Glasgow 2026, Andrew Cotter looks back at Scottish highlights from The Games held in Scotland in 1970, 1986 and 2014.
2026 will see The Commonwealth Games return to Scotland for the 4th time. Scotland has a proud history at the Games and have competed as a separate nation since The Games first started in 1930.
Andrew Cotter looks back at key Scottish highlights from The Games held in Scotland in 1970, 1986 and 2104, from Lachie Stewart’s historic 10k Gold in 1970, to Hannah Miley and Ross Murdoch’s heroics in the pool in 2014.
Andrew will also reflect on the controversial Edinburgh Commonwealth Games of 1986. A hugely significant and memorable Games which saw financial mismanagement and political controversary but on the sporting front we enjoyed the emergence of Scottish sporting stars such as Liz McColgan and Tom McKean.
