Top of the Pops officially enters the new millennium. In a year that saw the highest number of individual number ones, dance music is on the rise (again) thanks to the boom in filesharing, helping DJs such as Sonique and Spiller top the charts. Craig David takes a seemingly permanent residence in the Top 10, whilst pop continues to dominate not just the chart but TV sets too, with S Club back for their second album and second TV series. Meanwhile, American hip-hop is inbound, whilst the show still has room for more eclectic bands such as Eels.
Contributors include Craig David, Sonique, S Club, Spiller, Darude, Scott Robinson from 5ive, Eels’ Mark E Everett and broadcasters Trevor Nelson, Pete Tong and Sarah Cawood.
