Inspired by holidays to Italy and the Lake District, where Darren proposed to Jan, the couple want a garden filled with memories, texture and tranquillity.
They dream of gravel paths, olive-toned Mediterranean planting and central trees for shade, paired with ferns and shade-loving species that nod to the Lake District. Accessibility is vital: Jan, living with a slow-growing form of skin cancer, longs for a sheltered, sun-free space to relax and enjoy sensory plants. Wildlife is also at the heart of their vision, with a hedgehog house on the wish list.
