Black British History
Celestina Olulode in Bristol with five important stories from black British history.
For this special edition of Witness History, we join Celestina Olulode at the M Shed in Bristol for five important stories from Black British history. We hear how the Bristol bus boycott helped remove the racist 'colour bar' in UK workplaces. Why activist Claudia Jones set up a Caribbean carnival to promote West Indian culture after racial violence in the Notting Hill area of London. We travel back over 100 years to hear a witness to Liverpool's 1919 race riots. Plus, we meet Britain's first Black female headteacher and we head to Manchester to discover a legendary nightclub set up by a Nigerian who operated an open-door policy for all.
