Glen Juniors 2-3 Woodkirk Valley Blue TeamA sunny morning and a tough match ahead for both sides as Woodkirk Valley played away at the Glen Juniors home ground. The first five minutes were played mainly in Woodkirk’s half and it didn't look good for the away team. Following a Smallwood cross to Kendrew in the 6th, Valley gained pace. Henshaw just missed goal in the 7th and Callaghan defended well keeping Glen at bay. Good attacking by Kendrew couldn't stop Glen's number 9 scoring in the 13th. Woodkirk were determined and evened the score just before half time with a cracking Longhurst strike from 10 meters. 1-1. The second half started well with Kendrew and Smallwood up front passing well to each other. Four minutes in and a Longhurst strike from the mid hit the bar and dropped outside the goal mouth for Smallwood to knock in. 2-1. Glens number four stood out and equalized in the 12th. 2-2. Shortly after McKenna ran from the half way line and made a lovely lob scoring for Valley. 3-2. The final five minutes were furious as both teams knew they had it in them to score again. Great saves by McCormack and solid play upfront by Ansell-Wood provided Woodkirk with their third win in a row. Rigby in defense played some nice shots up the field to Laycock in the middle of the half. The second half was tough and Woodkirk battled hard. Diskin took a shot but it carried over the bar and Roberts made a great pass into the penalty area but too many players were down field.
