Munro backhand attack in choppy 2-3ft waves was inspiring and earned the Sydney surfer first place at the 6star event.

With big points up for grabs, Munro seized every opportunity to show-off his radical repertoire which saw him finish over two points ahead of runner-up Brazilian Paulo Moura.

Steve Clements finished third overall, with Darren O'Rafferty's fourth place giving the Australian a berth inside the top 10 ranking.

Tour leader Neco Padaratz in action

Tour leader Neco Padaratz again put in a faultless performance and can think himself unlucky for not making the final.

The Brazilian finished fourth in his semi, just one point off the pace needed to make the last four. With 1,388 points for his efforts, though, Padaratz has increasd his lead over second-placed American Shane Beschen to over 1,700 points.

British number one Russell Winter remains inside the top 50 on the tour. The Newquay-based surfers untimely exit in round seven against Australian Lee Winkler was enough to secure 43rd spot in the series.

Winter is the only Briton to feature in the top 100 and he will be eager to improve on his position during the remaining events on the European leg of the world tour.
