Brazilian Silvana Lima has soared up the women's World Qualifying Series rankings after a superb victory at the Lacanau Pro in France.

Lima won the title by the narrowest of margins finishing just 0.04 points ahead of second-placed Maria Tita Tavares and 0.37 in front of third placed Australian Lynette MacKenzie.

Tour leader Melanie Bartels was fourth. In weak 2ft waves, Lima made sure of victory with a superb 7 point ride four minutes from the end.

Despite finishing last in the final, Bartels is now comfortably ahead of nearest rivals Australian Chelse Georgeson and South African Heather Clark.

Georgeson saw her hopes fade in the semi's when she was outpointed by Lima and MacKenzie.

Cornwall's English champion Robyn Sunshine Davies was edged out in round two by South African Tamarys Walters and Australian Claire Bevilacqua,.

Walters had earlier put paid to former British Surfing Assocation surf instructor Tracy Boxall's chances in round one.
