Ottery Community Theatre
Ottery Community Theatre
Ship shape and Bristol fashion - Ottery Community Theatre
Ottery Community Theatre was founded in 1985 after a Community Play, The Ballad of Tilly Hake, produced by the Colway Theatre Trust. Our first production was The Yeomen Of The Guard and since then we've produced at least one play every year.

Shakespeare
We've been affiliated to the National Operatic and Dramatic Association since our earliest days.

We like to be different, and many of our productions have been "home -grown", written by members or other local people.

The real stars - some of our backstage crew
These have ranged from pantos to musicals, and from one-act plays to large-scale community plays.

However, we've also had a go at Shakespeare, Gilbert and Sullivan and Tony Harrison.

We usually start with workshops - rather than auditions - which give us an idea of how well people work together, and are also great fun.

Be prepared to be given silly things to do!

What have we been up to?
Our millennium production, performed in the Parish Church, was Tony Harrison 's "The Nativity", which won a NODA award for excellence.

Rehearsal time
Jill Coley, Lizi Bennett and Hannah Palmer in rehearsals for a scene from "The Quiescence Chamber" by Simon Harlond
Our most recent pantomime was "Three Blonde Mice" by Simon Harlond, who described it as "a pantomime of sorts".

It had most of the usual ingredients and some unusual ones too, including a seventies setting, dancing beans and talking chives!

It was very well received, with record audiences over five performances.

"Phyllis Who", also by Simon Harlond, was entered for the Sidmouth Festive Nights competition in April, 2003, and won the Best Original Script award.

This makes it two in a row for OCT, after Laurie Palmer's success with "Bewildered" last year.

What now?
"Lies, Damned Lies and ...?" is the intriguing title for our latest offering of original One Act Plays, to be presented at the Salston Manor Hotel on June 7th and 8th, 2003.

More rehearsing

Both of our award-winning playwrights have contributed scripts, and the third is by Gillian M. Coley, who is well known locally for her excellent pantomimes and poems.
