The Tarka Trail, Lorna Doone Country, Braunton Burrows World Biosphere, Lundy Island, Exmoor, Dartmoor, and one of the most dramatic coastlines in the country.

All these places - and more - are included in this year's North Devon & Exmoor Walking and Cycling Festival on 27th April - 4th May.

For the first time, this annual event is being held over a week, with several new routes included.

The programme has over 40 guided and speciality walks and a dozen bike rides for a range of abilities.

There is a map reading course and treasure hunt on Exmoor using your new map skills; a photographic walk on the South West Coast Path; and a mini-cruise around the World Biosphere estuary where the rivers Taw and Torridge flow out to the sea.

Other walks include a gentle stroll through Ruby Country near Holsworthy, the Two Moors Way, a wildlife discovery tour of Horsey Island, and a walk at Lundy Island.

Hartland, Ifracombe, Clovelly, Westward Ho!, Baggy Point and Lynmouth are other areas with a choice of short or long walks.

Westward Ho!

For keen cyclists, there is a 23-mile ride plus a surfing lesson on the north coast, and other cycle routes in Tarka Country.

The idea of the festival is to make locals and visitors alike more aware of the "green tourism" on offer in north and west Devon.

And it also kick-starts the holiday season for this part of the county.

This is just an idea of the walks and rides on offer during the festival. For more information and details on how to book, visit the festival website which is linked on the left of this page.

Or contact the festival office on 01271 883131.
