The Dartmoor National Park Authority (DNPA) is rejecting suggestions its land should be used for wind farms.

The Devon Structure Plan - a blueprint for local planning issues - has said all local planning authorities should find areas for renewable energy development.

Dartmoor should remain free of wind turbines, says the DNPA
But the DNPA says it is against any large-scale schemes.

It believes they would be inappropriate despite the exposed nature of the moor and the distance from major areas of population.

The authority will discuss its concerns at its first meeting of 2004 which is due to be held in January.

The authority's planning committee has been considering the structure plan and has welcomed many of its recommendations.

It says it is pleased that planning and building developments at north Woolwell, Lee Mill and Ivybridge have been rejected and that it has found little else in the report that concerns the park.
